Mornin!!!
There are a few in the Guild who follow Rugby League (as well as some that don't) and on the weekend of the 15th-16th of February there is the Auckland Nines tournament held in... um... Auckland.
A few of us have a couple of in game bets during the season so I thought it might be cool to have an "all-in, one winner" bet on this two day competition.
If you're interested we were thinking of putting in 500g each and whoever has picked the winning team gets the lot.
If there happen to be two players who must pick the same team then unfortunately they'll have to split the prize, maybe we can split their buy in so combined they're still only putting in the 500g.
Obviously I'm not putting much thought into these rules so if you've got a better suggestion please let us know.
Also if we get less than 16 players, which is likely, players could possibly "buy in" to get a second team or, if people aren't interested in doing that, we could instead either: 1. award the prize to the team that gets furthest in the finals; or 2. assign extra teams out of a hat so all 16 teams have a name against them (really only worthwhile if we have 8 teams or less picked in the first round so each player could get 2 teams+).
We'll decide on the final competition rules before the weekend so any input is welcome.
Of course you don't have to follow the game to take part. Pick a team just based on their name, if there's a big name player in the team or (if you're really serious, which this is not intended to be in any way) you could even check out their odds to win the comp.
If you can avoid doubling up on the teams you pick, then that will make life easier however, if you've got an emotional investment that can't be helped and the above rules will come into play unless anyone has a better alternative .
Side bets welcome (and encouraged) if your team plays another participants team (which might be interesting for the NZ boys and Zuzu looking at the pools).
The four pools are: • (YELLOW) Warriors, Raiders, Sea Eagles and Cowboys • (GREEN) Roosters, Eels, Broncos and Bulldogs • (BLUE) Sharks, Knights, Tigers and Titans • (RED) Storm, Panthers, Rabbitohs and Dragons.
So I guess if your interested then reply to this and say the team you want to pick. It will be 500g to be mailed to a neutral party (TBA) beforehand.
As mentioned if you want to offer a better way of running this please let me know either in game/Mumble or on the forum, any suggestions welcome.
Cheers
Eiellith

I'll grab Roosters seeing as though Sharks are taken.
Let me know if you're a mad Roosters supporter and I might give it up and pick another team ;P

Cr@p on a stick, I don't know where the time goes sometimes.
Totally failed to finalise this.
We ended up with 9 takers so allocating extra teams wouldn't have worked.
Do we just go for the team that makes it the furthest and go ties it goes to head to head record between the tied teams then points scored?
If no one has any objections let's go tht way.
(I know sharks have already won a game but they scored mid range so not too muh advantage)

So we're two rounds into the three round group matches and it's still very touch and go about which of the nine (out of 16) teams we've selected will make the finals and which will be left behind.
The only team to have now chance realistically is the Dragons, lucky Zesh is cashed up and 500g is only a drop in the ocean, doesn't help the hurt pride though. Maybe next year (or in the real season) Zesh.
The kiwi boys have the only two undefeated teams (no one picked the eels, why would you) with the Warriors (Bannox) and Panthers (Boom). Both these teams are almost guaranteed a finals berth unless there are some amazing results that go against them.
For the Warriors to drop out they will need to get smashed by the Cowboys and the Sea Eagles would have to smash the Raiders.
If the Cowboys win they should be in the finals unless the Sea Eagles can score a massive win over the Raiders (which isn't impossible the green machine seem to already be touched by Ricky's curse). If the cowboys lose by a small margin though they could still make it with a one from three record if the raiders beat the sea eagles but a modest number of points. Really touch and go based on the warriors form, up to the cowboys to take it to them if they want to stay in. Good luck Rul!
As far as the Panthers (Boom) goes they're in almost the exact same position as the Warriors, win and they're in, lose and they have to be unlucky to still not make it. Looking like second favourites behind the Warriors based on the form in the first two rounds.
From that group we have the storm (Leo) and bunnies (Niavy) still competing for the second spot into the finals. Of these two teams I'd prefer to be the Storm who are yet to play the dismal Dragons while the Bunnies need a win against the in-form Panthers if they are a realistic chance. Too soon to call it but I like Leo's odds of progressing.
In the Green group we have two team selected in a similar position with the Roosters (Tina) and the Broncos (Zuzu) both sitting on a 1 & 1 record behind the unexpected challengers the Eels. Again the Broncos are under a bit more pressure playing the Eels however the Roosters are playing the underachieving Bulldogs. I think there are too many variables to decide between these two team chances so would suggest its touch and go for both of them and they just need to concentrate on this game and a win I the only option I they want to keep their chances alive. It will all be decide for them anyway in the next 2 hours.
The final team selected is the mighty Sharkies who had an unexpected last minute win over one of the favourites for the competition, the Knights, only to lose to the Titans to make their job harder. The Blue group has four teams on a 1 & 1 record so there's no ifs and buts about it. A win for the Sharks guarantees them a finals spot, a loss is disaster.
Good luck in the second day. It will all be decided by about 6pm.
There are some chances for side bets but that would require you to step away from watching the game itself (or whatever other interesting Sunday tasks your up to) and find the person your playing against to decide on terms, oh well sorry (drink!) for not being more organised!

Roosters losing sight with a 16-4 loss to the bulldogs. Now they have to pray for the eels to beat the broncos by more than 21 points for them to scrape in by for and against. I think Zuzu might be in the finals but Tina is still hoping...

Well Tina's miracle didn't happen with the broncos beating the Eels.
This means that the teams going into the finals from the first two groups are:
Knights vs Broncos (Zuzu) Eels vs Sharks (Eie)
The first two teams donating their money are the two ladies Zesh and Tina.
Now the more packed groups will start to see how the other 6 (including Zesh) end up.
I know I've been writing the Dragons off but they are still a mathematical chance but the numbers required would need to be two record games.

Warriors beat a valiant Cowboys, the only thing that cans be Rul from joining the girls before the finals is for Ricky's woeful Raiders to beat the Sea Eagles...

Looks like the Raiders have saved Rul from the cut and both selected teams (Warriors and Cowboys) from the Yellow group go through! That means out of the nine teams selected 6 have made it to the finals. Fun times!

They may not have got the miracle results they needed but the dragons regain the lead with 2 minutes to go to ensure they're not the only team to not win a game during the weekend.
This ensures Boom's Panthers are in the finals and the last game between the Panthers and Bunnies will decide if Leo's Storm or Niavy's Bunnies goes through in the final finals spot.

Broncos vs Sharks in the first semi (side bet time Zuzu?)
That means we will have a winner. All six teams still in the finals are teams someone has picked!
Exciting!

And then there were four.
The semis are now: Broncos (Zuzu) vs Sharks (Eie) Warriors (Bannox) vs Cowboys (Rul)
3 games to go!

And Rul takes it!
A battle of the Cowboy fans. It was all a case of being there right place, right time otherwise I'm sure Zuzu would have had the Cowboys instead of the Broncos.
Please excuse my blow by blow, it was born partially of not being able to watch the comp and just look at live scores on the NRL app.
If everyone could kindly forward 500g to Rul (and square up any side bets) that would be great.
Thanks, maybe I should try and be a bit more organised next year!
