Excellent find :-) Seriously check that out guys if you have d/c issues - and more importantly even if you don't - because you could be causing others to d/c. The basic points he includes:- - Recount - disable the syncing - It's useless! ("/reccount sync" to disable)
Absolutely correct - as of path 3.0.x (or in in the late 2.x steam) the combat visibility was pushed up by default to 200 yards. (it used to be very small). You don't need to sync anymore as you can "see" the combat that's going on. He does point out that if you phase shift in an encounter (e.g. Sarth) then you can loose visibility. Yep true, but WWS reports can capture this, and it's where you should be looking for your dps reports. Further to this, just get rid of recount - It's basically useless for group comparisons anyway as it's not 100% guaranteed to process all the incoming combat chatter. At best it's a personal indication of what you think your DPS/heals etc are - but I wouldn't use or trust it beyond that. There is another argument that less time worrying about topping some silly meter and doing all that you can to succeed in the fight will ultimately bring in the big "W"in anyway.
- DotTimer - very chatty mod if you use it, turn off the chatter so that the rest of the raid doesn't get it and have to ignore it. (/dottimer sync ? to disable)
- Combat Log - Set for no-details.
The post suggest disabling your combat lot settings under the Self filter. I would suggest leaving that alone and adding a new 'Raid-Log' filter where you disable everything. Switch to the Raid-Log filter when raiding. Most of the time we don't need to analyze the combat log to know why ppl died. Tanks may want to keep this up. But the rest of us could generally get by 99% of encounters without needing it. (Choose to re-enable if we need to 'discover' what's killing us as needed).
He also offers some network registry/tweaks that may or may not help. There's been discussion on them before, but like he says. None of this stuff will 'hurt' even if it doesn't 'help'. So give them a bash. Check out the link Gb posted for some better details into mod chatter, hardware options and so on. -Apo
