I've been using a proxy-tunneling service for a while now and have had no issues with yet as yet (and no warnings to my account*). It's called wowtunnels, and the site is here: wowtunnels.com/There is a bit of setup, but it isn't that complicated unless you're a total computer newbie. I'm going ahead and giving it a thumbs up as I've had good results with it. *I say I have not been warned/banned, because in earlier days some accounts had received warnings or suspensions which were later lifted. These incidents are recorded in the wow general and tech support forums. Seems that logging in in one part of the world, then quickly from a server in another, flagged your account for 'sharing' or 'powerleveling.' It *seems* these issues have been taken care of. I will certainly let you know if/when my account has problems... but I never start wow from my home i.p. anymore, I only use the tunnels server/app.

These things are supposed to be quite good. I would suggest caution - there is a chance that if you log into the game from your proxy server and then from home that you can get flagged for possible account sharing / powerlevelling.
The other thing to be careful of is account / computer security. Make sure that you get one of the more reputable ones - I remember hearing that there was some securities concerns with something like this.

Well looks like the party's over....they're charging now.
I'm running down a few other possibilities.

There was still one guy I heard of setting up free tunneling, so I found him on irc just now. He was getting smashed trying to do more than one guild and his hardware couldn't support it without lagging, so he kicked everyone but his guildies. Sounds like he doesn't do it all anymore. Said if we wanted to setup a server through 'dedicatedbox.com' he could help us out... would be like 55.00/month. I'll keep my eyes open for something free though. There's a thread at elitistjerks.com that has something interesting info on setting your ack to a different value. I thought it was bunk when i read it in wow forums, but sounds like there may be something to it... making a large difference. elitistjerks.com/f15/t17761-server_locations_latency_australia/p13/edit:learn to spell elite noob

Now we are getting more serious lol.
I would be very careful about implementing the registry hack if you weren't pretty cluey about computers. If you don't know what you are doing there is enormous potential for disaster playing around with the registry files.
It is supposed to work though - no risk of getting banned with it either

I've tried the registry hack(I know what to do if something breaks), for me it did work very well. If you are going to do it remember to back up your registry before you do it.

So I did some research on the subject and check this article straight out of the terms of agreement we all never read... lol...
" B. You agree that you shall not, under any circumstances,
(iii) host, provide or develop matchmaking services for the Game or intercept, emulate or redirect the communication protocols used by Blizzard in any way, including without limitation through protocol emulation, tunneling, packet sniffing, modifying or adding components to the Game, use of a utility program or any other techniques now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose, including without limitation unauthorized network play over the Internet, network play utilizing commercial or non-commercial gaming networks, or as part of content aggregation networks. "
So another words, be very careful with any third party program that reroutes/alters gameplay.

As for the RegEdit, nowhere in their terms of agreement do they state changing personal computer settings for performance increases to be illegal in any way. This is a very legit way of increasing performance by up to 60%! I Still personally receive a latency of 300-400ms WITH the Registry fix. This is from Japan though, not sure how that effects me in anyway though.

Yea I actually read the TOS a little while ago and was a bit worried about that. Blizz may have relaxed on that rule lately like they do with char names. Just look at all the names people are getting away with using these day's that clearly breach the TOS.

Hmm hadn't ever read that section (or most of it - and I am lawyer lol). Is it that cut and dried or are tunneling services actually interfering with your connection to the net and not the communication protocols of the game?
So I also did some research - short answer, who knows. Blue posts state that it is not a supported method of connection. There are players who allege they know people banned for it. There is a 20 page debate as to whether tunneling in fact is against that provision. Some think it is and its not enforced, others disagree and say its not. There is no yes/no Blue answer. I think the best we could say is that it is probably a low risk issue (relatively speaking), but if something goes wrong with it don't expect a lot of sympathy.
The registry thing is certainly not against the ToS. Its simply the risk of screwing something up badly is higher if you start fooling around with that stuff.
As for char names - I doubt they have relaxed the policy. I think that you have to be reported before they take any action. Unless and until someone reports you nothing happens (which is why the RP servers have more name violations than anywhere else).
Meanwhile Ani that picture is badass!!!

Why thank you Silk! As for the name violations I will agree that it has gotten out of hand, but I'd have to agree with Silk that Blizzard isn't going to just go out there and be the nazi police... someone has to report the name. On the flipside I'd also have to say, let them use special characters if they want, it's not hurting anyone. Then again people should be more creative and unique with their names, such as myself! ~~Anicarz~~
